"A body is a living entity. It represents life, freedom, sensuality, and it is a mechanism to carry out our thoughts. A body is always beautiful to me. It depends on the individual work and what I do with it and what kind of idea lies behind it if age matters or not. But in my group works, the only difference is how far people can go if it rains, snows etc." By Spencer Tunick
An artist with a weird want to 'express' his vision. He captures nude figures through film and video in public space as his decor. The creation of his installations can be compared to impressive film sets or performances-all in the name of art. Of course, the idea of stripping naked for art is hardly new, as many an art class life model can confirm. But mass nudity has become quite the fashion. Spencer Tunick is a photographer whose images feature masses of nude people in public places, often encompass volunteers. To date, one of Spencer Tunick's largest gatherings for a nude photo is 18,000 naked people who posed for a photo series taken in New Mexico in 2007.Tunick has photographed large gatherings of nude people in Barcelona, Brazil, New York, Australia, theUnited Kingdom and Belgium.
Spencer Tunick began his project to photograph groups of nude people in 1994. Tunick, who is from the United States, has organized close to 100 photo-shoots at landmarks around the world. The people he photographs are volunteers and he usually directs them from a scaffolding using a loudspeaker. Tunick resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wife, who is a designer. His artwork has been the focus of several HBO and BBC documentaries.
Tunick's art projects are symbol for freedom. His images are abstractions that challenge to look differently towards nudity and privacy.
